“We don’t want to make it TOO annoying (this is supposed to be a chill fun game), but we also don’t want to make you feel like you’re just getting achievements for breathing, either,” explains Short. Pupperazzi looks to be an interesting mashup of different gameplay elements, and we were curious about how this might be reflected in its achievements, so we asked the team to walk us through their design process.

The catalogue element actually emerged organically later as something we thought players would expect based on other photo games.” “And at that point we decided to see if we could build a game around that creative photography aspect. “Yeah, after we made the original competitive prototype, we had originally planned to move on, but we found ourselves ignoring the rules of that prototype and instead getting really into the photography aspect,” agrees Shasha. “It actually started as a competitive multiplayer game, but the more Sundae Month developed it, the more it made sense to focus on the dogs and low-pressure wanderings,” says Short. But honestly just playing fetch with a frisbee on the beach can entertain me for hours…” Pupperazzi, it seems, originally started life as something quite different. “Well, I say toys, but that includes things like the violin (make dogs sad), or the music box (make dogs sleepy), for example. “There are also a bunch of different kinds of foods and toys, so you can play with the dogs all day (and all night),” begins Short.
You can also take time out of your busy schedule to interact with the dogs of Pupperazzi dressing them up, playing fetch, or even bringing out the dreaded vacuum cleaner. So I can’t wait to see how players get outside the box with their photos!” As a developer I’ve probably played more Pupperazzi than anyone else (so far) and even after all this time I love to experiment with different combinations of filters and lenses to try and create a unique image. We wanted it to be possible to pick between a few different kinds of objectives at a time.” You’re able to get more and more creative with the photography in Pupperazzi, and Shasha adds, “My favorite aspect of the game is expressing myself with the photography. Gaining followers is meant to be more of a free-form goal compared to the requests you get, which can be pretty specific. There are different audiences on DogNet that prefer different types of photos (such as the ‘Traditionalists’ who like black and white, centered, portrait pics). “Completing photo requests from the various dogs (and others) will increase your standing and you will find yourself with increasingly grand photo opportunities.” Shasha continues, saying, “you’ll be adding photos to DogNet, which nets you followers. “Just like in real life, you can build your portfolio and following by sharing photos to (fake) social media,” begins Wagg.
